Rooming & My Class

This is one of the two rooms in which we bunked. We slept with the Dominican girls, ages sixteen to thirty. In this picture, you can see our mosquito nets. My bed is the bottom bunk with the towel draped over the front.

This is my class. I worked with Mr. Paul Archer in the beginning English class. We did a lot of teaching by acting out the words. This method was extremely repetitive but worked really well.

The Chapel, Classrooms, and Lunchroom

This is where we worshipped. We would have two or three chapels a day, depending on whether we had bible study that night (Wednesday) or not. My pastor, Boone Leigh, would lead the chapels, and one of the older students would usually lead the bible studies. Mr. Leigh would use a translator during his chapels, so it would take double the time as it normally would.








This picture is of a normal classroom. Most of our classes had anywhere from five to eight students, so the rooms were mostly empty. During the school year, they use these rooms for kindergardeners all the way to fifth graders.

This is the lunchroom, where we would eat all of our meals. Breakfast would usually consist of a juice with some sort of bread. Lunch is the biggest meal of the day, so it would have everything from rice, beans, and meat, in addition to a dessert (cookie, jello, etc.). Dinner would consist of smaller portions, such as a hotdog with potato or a plate full of rice.

My Experience in the DR

This is the name of the school where we taught English, shared the Gospel, worshipped, slept, and ate. The translation is the Biblical Center of Juan Tomas, Incorporated; the Biblical Church of Juan Tomas, the Spring School of Life, & the Biblical Camp of Juan Tomas. Through the following posts, I will be showing different aspects of this place and how we spent our time there.
